Webinar: GPS Interference – A Balanced PerspectiveJoin us on 11/09/2011 from 2:00 pm - 3:30 pmBy popular demand, UTC is expanding an earlier discussion hosted by UTC’s Technical Division about LIghtSquared and GPS interference to a new Webinar on the topic which allows for presentations from all sides of the debate along with questions and answer time. This is a more formal presentation than the UTC Technical Division discussion and includes additional speakers on the issue to present a complete view of the process. As many of you know, LightSquared Subsidiary LLC is a company that plans to provide a wholesale, nationwide 4G-LTE wireless broadband network integrated with satellite coverage. To accomplish this, LightSquared is combining existing mobile satellite communications services (formerly known as SkyTerra) with a ground-based wireless communications network that uses the same radio spectrum as GPS satellites. Specifically, the base stations LightSquared is using to mobilize their network transmit signals in a radio band immediately adjacent to the GPS frequencies. As a result, there are concerns in the GPS community that LightSquared's ground-based transmissions may overpower the relatively weak GPS signal from space causing GPS devices pick up the stronger LightSquared signal and become overloaded or jammed. This may cause problems for consumers – including utilities – that rely on GPS. This Webinar is a great way to stay informed on the current status of this topic from LightSquared and GPS representatives and ask questions pertinent to your utility. The goal is to present a fair and unbiased view of the situation and allow attendees to understand the issue from all sides and what the projected path is for both communities moving forward. A special registration is available for utility regulators. Please contact UTC's Legal/Regulatory department at legal@utc.org to find out how you can take advantage and register.
* Call in information will be provided to registrants the day before the Webinar. For questions contact meetings@utc.org |
