UTC filed reply commentswith the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) (PS Docket No. 11-82) last week, supporting the FCC’s proposal to extend network outage reporting requirements to apply to broadband and interconnected VoIP providers. The FCC’s proposal is intended to improve the reliability of commercial networks, particularly as more and more traffic migrates from traditional networks (e.g. cable, wireline telco and wireless) to broadband and VoIP networks. UTC agreed with the FCC’s tentative conclusion that this proposal would provide benefits that would outweigh the burdens of reporting, and that the reporting requirements should be similar to those that the FCC currently requires from traditional network service providers.
