Truth About Utility And Other Critical Infrastructure Industry Telecom Capabilities and Needs - UTC Information BulletinAs the energy industry moves forward in the development and deployment of smart energy grids, marketing ploys that misrepresent utility capabilities and needs have been implemented that are designed to skew both utility decisions and regulatory oversight. The marketing ploys ignore the fact that utilities will ultimately choose to build their own networks or buy telecom services based upon technical requirements, costs and levels of service required. Utilities have and will continue to utilize others to provide telecom services for certain aspects of utility operations and smart grid deployments based upon these criteria. For these reasons, UTC felt a need to set the record straight in this UTC Information Bulletin and assure our industry’s customers, regulators, and stakeholders that utilities will meet their critical communications needs by various means including expanding their existing networks. As described in the attached, the rhetoric which has been introduced into the marketplace tends to understate the real capabilities of utilities and overstate the capabilities of others. UTC's goal in this bulletin has been to separate fact from fiction. |
