Full Service Engineering Solutions

Use our enhanced Engineering Services to make your
communication systems as effective and efficient as possible.

UTC has established a strategic partnership with SiteSafe, Inc., an industry leader in comprehensive RF engineering and compliance services, project management, frequency coordination and other customized services. As a result, UTC Spectrum Services can ensure the effectiveness of your systems with the following services.

Microwave Network & System Design

UTC Spectrum Services offers a full range of microwave design services for building your system. From site and equipment selection, to feasibility analysis and line-of-sight verification, to frequency coordination, licensing, installation, and construction, our experts can help you manage the design and implementation of your microwave network.

UTC Spectrum Services manages the design and development process for you; we deliver the data you need to make critical decisions on available frequency bands, licensed versus unlicensed radio systems, and other issues associated with microwave. When designing and building microwave networks, due diligence is required to ensure a successful implementation, and we have the experience and knowledge to assist you in selecting the right equipment and the right frequency band to ensure the most effective communication infrastructure.

In addition to providing complete system design, UTC Spectrum Services can provide design services for individual links where required to supplement or expand an existing system. Our staff uses a full suite of GIS and engineering planning tools to plan the links of a line-of-sight microwave network to ensure high reliability.

RF Compliance Studies

In addition to providing RF Safety Training, UTC Spectrum Services offers other RF related services to help you stay in compliance with FAA, FCC and OSHA regulations.

We can provide site evaluations to ensure that RF sites comply with FCC regulations and do not present a health risk to persons occupying these areas. Site evaluations for RF emissions are targeted for FCC licensees' building and property owners and site managers. An RF Emissions study provides the following benefits:

  • Ability to meet FCC regulations for RF Emissions
  • Components to create site safety plans for compliance with some OSHA requirements
  • Use report for community planning, city council meetings, and zoning hearings
  • Peace of mind that environment is safe for employees and general public
  • Protection of your financial investment - ensuring compliance with regulation avoids costly legal battles and the expense of later action plans to correct sites found to be unsafe and non-compliant
  • Operational efficiency - proactive RF compliance and safety knowledge equips you with tools to address future concerns quickly.

Intermodulation Analysis

Communication system operators often install transmitter facilities on antenna structures used by other licensees - a practice known as
co-location. These facilities sometimes cause interference to previous antenna site tenants. One such type of interference is called Intermodulation (IM) Product Interference. The last carrier on is responsible for measurement and remediation of the interference.

Intermodulation Screening (Intermod or IM): We evaluate the frequencies in use or proposed to be used at a given antenna site to determine if harmful radio frequency interference will result as the licensees interact with each other in the vicinity of the antenna site. This is typically used to determine whether the installation of a new antenna or transmitter at an antenna site will cause interference to existing tenants at that site. If it is determined that IM products or interference may be introduced, we recommend further analysis, then provide an Engineering Statement that acknowledges the calculated results and recommended actions.

Intermod Interference Remediation: We also conduct further analysis to determine how to mitigate interference. This may include slight changes in transmit frequency, use of filters, changes to tower sites or introduction of physical obstacles.

Utility Grade Engineering Service

The expert staff at UTC Spectrum Services can provide you with top-notch engineering services, offering the total solution for all of your communications systems needs.

  • Drive Testing - an evaluation of selected sites for inclusion in your coverage area
  • GIS - area to Locate License Coverage Market Penetration (demographics) Greenfield Carrier Concentration Lease-up Reports Zoning Hearing Support Market Analysis Location Maps
  • Propagation Analysis - covers such propagation models as free space, Okamura/HATA, Okamura with Knife Edge Diffraction, Longley-Rice, and the proprietary BIBY-C. Propagation analysis is a complex process with many variables that can be altered to model the existing or proposed system accurately
  • Contour Analysis - we provide the plots of service contours (f(50,50)) and interference contours f(50,10)) necessary for FCC applications
  • Short-Space Negotiations - we negotiate with third party licensees for the sharing of existing channels in areas where frequency congestion precludes an exclusive channel
