The marketing ploys ignore the fact that utilities will ultimately choose to build their own networks or buy telecom services based upon technical requirements, costs and levels of service required.

UTC Files Joint Comments on FCC's Cybersecurity Roadmap Proceeding

UTC, EEI, APPA and NRECA filed joint comments with the FCC in its proceeding on the development of a cybersecurity roadmap (PS Docket No. 10-146). The Associations emphasized three main points: urging the FCC to support smart grid and existing private communications networks, suggesting that the FCC coordinate with other agencies in developing the roadmap, and urging the FCC to recognize existing international standards on cybersecurity.
