Keynote Speaker John Foley: High Performance at Mach Speeds
The pace in the global marketplace for communications and technology organizations often resembles the F-18 John Foley once took on a test flight. He looked at the operations manual and saw the word “Plus” next to the maximum altitude and speed, so he asked himself: “I wonder what the ‘plus’ really means?” And then he pushed the plane to its limits, going so high that he saw the curvature of the Earth as the heat melted the paint on the aircraft before coming nearly straight back down at beyond the speed of sound – Mach 1.57.
As a fighter pilot in the U.S. Navy and a member of the elite Blue Angels flight demonstration squadron, John Foley learned valuable lessons for creating processes that encourage innovation and promote consistency – two hallmarks of High Performance. When John tells audiences about High Performance at high speeds under heavy pressure, he speaks from experience, but he also speaks with the experience of a Sloan Fellow at Stanford’s business school and an entrepreneur who has built his own businesses. John’s framework for High Performance comes from working with and learning from the best of the best, which makes him a natural fit for organizations intent on setting the curve – not just keeping up with it – in face-paced, high-stakes industries.
He also is the founder and CEO of CenterPoint Companies, which provides in-depth training on the How of High Performance. And he is the founder of the Glad To Be Here® Foundation, which administers a giving-forward program that partners with clients to make donations to worthy charities.

UTC Fiber Optic Professional Certification Program
Professionals in the growing utility fiber optic network industry will have the opportunity to become officially certified in fiber optic network technologies through a certification offered at the UTC TELECOM 2014 conference. Certification is not directed at specific vendor equipment, but rather at establishing a professional competence regarding a broad base of utility fiber optic based technology. The training is a specific utility-based certification program that further supports the communications industry by addressing the design, installation and maintenance of fiber optic networks that are unique to the utility right-of-way environment.
The course and the certification examination will address topics such as critical building, aerial and underground fiber optic networks on distribution and transmission, as well as rights-of-ways issues. Key parameters such as network design, installation, testing, troubleshooting, and operations of fiber optics networks utilizing OPGW, ADSS, and Loose Tube fiber optic cables will be covered in detail.
The program is aimed at utility installers, technicians, and supervisors for the Level 1 certification and for utility engineers, designers, supervisors, and management staff for the UTC Level 2 and Level 3 certification.
