Just a Dollar a Day?

UTC members get a lot for their money, but what you may not know is how
little membership might actually cost you. Did you know that membership
for some utilities costs only $1.00 per day? And look at the benefits
you receive. From our UTC Journal,
to thought-provoking education, to topic-specific discussion boards on
the utility-telecom topics that matter to you, UTC has it all. Still
not convinced? Join now and get the rest of 2007 and all of 2008 for
the price of just one year. To find out more, and to get an
up-to-the-minute quote, visit the online enrollment page here or call 202.833.6809.

UTC Readership Survey

UTC would like to get an idea of the effectiveness of our communication
pieces directly from UTC readers. That's why we're asking for your help
with our readership survey. We're asking everyone - members and
non-members - to complete our 10 minute online survey
by September 4, 2007. Please answer these questions as honestly as
possible; results will not be tied to a specific respondent. Your
opinions will help guide our communication plan moving forward.

AS A SPECIAL THANK YOU: One respondent will be chosen at random to receive an Apple iPod nano 4GB MP3 Player in Silver. We appreciate your help!

Look What's New in UTC Research

It has been a busy summer for UTC Research. Look for four upcoming reports soon to be available: the much anticipated NERC CIP Standards: Ten Steps to Compliance; The State of Utility Fiber 2007; a Wireless Attachments Market Report; and, in just a few weeks, New Wireless Technologies for Utilities. It is not too late to get involved with sponsorship of any of these reports -- please contact Aldo Morri at 202.833.6828 for a sponsorship prospectus and further information about these important opportunities.

And don't forget UTC Research's Summer Sale, going on now!

Take advantage of this opportunity to get sale prices on
individual reports, or the complete archive of UTC's pre-2007 research
reports - an over $100,000 value -- for a one-time fee of $3,000 for
UTC Core Members, $3,500 for Associate Members, and $4,000 for
non-members. This is a limited-time offer, so please visit the UTC Web
site at www.utc.org [4], or contact Sara Ray at 202.833.6805 for more information.

Early Rate Extended for the NERC Cyber Security Workshop

UTC has just extended the NERC Cyber Security Workshop
early registration and discounted hotel rate to Wednesday, August 8,
2007. If you are planning to attend, make sure to take advantage of
this extended time for this discount. The NERC Cyber Security Workshop
is scheduled for September 6-7, 2007 at the Marriott Washington in
Washington, DC. This workshop will help your utility master the
complexities of the NERC CIP standards for cyber security, define
"critical cyber assets," prepare your utility for a cyber security
audit and more. Join UTC, industry experts, NERC experts and your
colleagues for a pivotal look at compliance with CIP 002-009, the NERC
Cyber Security standards.

Join UTC at a Regional Meeting This Fall

Several
UTC regions have educational events planned for this Fall. Regional
meetings provide a great way for you to learn and network with other
utilities in your same geographic area that are often facing the same
issues as your utility. Many of these meetings also include exhibits
and sponsorships from leading vendor partners, making this a great
place to see some of the new products and services these companies are
offering during networking breaks. Register today to ensure your spot
at your regional conference is reserved.

Region 2 Meeting: September 17-18, 2007
Resorts Atlantic City, Atlantic City, NJ

Region 9 Fall Technical Meeting: September 19-21, 2007
Best Western Agate Beach, Newport, OR

UTC Northeast Region Utility Telecom Forum (Region 1): September 20-21, 2007

UPLC's Annual Conference -
Broadband Power Line 2007

There's still plenty of time to join the United Power Line Council at
its annual conference, Broadband Power Line 2007 at The Fairmont Dallas
in Dallas, TX from September 18-21, 2007. The program for the
conference and hotel information can be found online at www.bplconference.org [5].
This conference is a must attend for any utility currently rolling out
BPL or utilities just starting to think about using BPL for internal or
commercial use.

If you plan to attend, make sure to take advantage of membership in
UPLC to get access to discounted registration rates. In addition,
membership gives you access to information on what's going on with BPL
and its legal/regulatory support during every stage of your BPL
deployment. For more information on joining UPLC, click here.

Engage the Canadian Market and Make A Difference as a Member of UTC Canada

If business interests take you north of the border, you owe it to
yourself to consider UTC Canada membership. This group of utility
telecom/IT professionals is taking on the leading issues of the day as
a united front, communicating with CRTC, Industry Canada and other
agencies in promoting favorable business opportunities for utilities.

Members of UTC Canada will be able to join with their peers in
addressing legislative and regulatory issues unique to utilities and
critical infrastructure. In addition to a collective legislative voice
on critical issues, UTC Canada provides members with an opportunity to
network, gain essential skills to enhance their career, share best
practices, and stay up to date on the news relevant to the utility,
UTelcos and critical infrastructure telecom sector. UTC Canada Charter
and Regular members can also take advantage of full membership rights
in UTC USA - the global trade association focused on the unique
telecommunications needs of critical infrastructure (Organizations in
the U.S. must first join UTC to be eligible for membership in UTC
Canada).

The best way to truly engage the Canadian market is to become
a Charter Member of UTC Canada. And for a limited time, Charter
membership is available to new members for only $2,500. This is the
premier Canadian membership, which also affords utilities a seat on the
UTC Canada Board of Directors. UTC Canada is finalizing their new
strategic plan, so now is the perfect time to get involved and make a
difference. To sign up or for more information, contact Peter Doherty
at 1.202.833.6809.

UtiliSite Council is Now Online!

This
summer, UTC announced the formation of its newest affiliate, the
UtiliSite Council. The Council is an organization of utilities that
offers a wide variety of support services for commercial wireless
carriers, including antenna sitings, traffic backhaul and construction.
We enhance every member utility's ability to market their services to
carriers through the collective strength of a central hub, working
through UTC's main office to not only promote each utility's
participation in the Council, but provide carriers with detailed
information on partnerships available with utilities all across the
country.

The UtiliSite Council already has big plans for 2007 and
beyond, and we plan to kick off a busy fall by visiting with UTC and
UtiliSite members at the upcoming PCIA conference in Orlando, FL. If
you are going to be in town, we urge you to stop by and learn more
about early plans for an inaugural UtiliSite Council annual meeting,
services to member utilities, and how your utility can benefit from day
one with a seat on the UtiliSite Board of Directors.

In just the past few weeks, membership in the UtiliSite
Council has grown to represent nearly a dozen utilities and thousands
of sites. We want your UTC-member utility to get in on the ground floor
by joining the Council today. To encourage you to join, we are offering
half-price membership through the end of 2007. Visit us online at www.utilisite.utc.org [6]
to find out more about the Council AND to enroll. For more information,
contact Peter Doherty, UTC's Membership Manager, at 202.833.6809 or peter.doherty@utc.org [7].
