As part of its continuing effort to improve the legal and regulatory services to its members, UTC is tracking state legal/regulatory issues that could affect the communications issues for utilities and other critical infrastructure industries. For example, investor-owned utilities are subject to state affiliate transactions rules regarding the use of assets for non-utility purposes. Similarly, municipal utilities may be subject to state and local restrictions on their offering of telecommunications or broadband services. Finally, states may also regulate pole attachments by co-operative and municipal utilities, as well as investor-owned utilities. These are just some of the issues that are covered by the UTC State Issues Web page.
